A 27-year-old Stratford man has died after a collision with a Via Rail train on Wednesday night.

Perth County OPP were called to the Goderich Exeter Railway Company line west of Shakespeare on Wednesday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a train.

Investigation revealed that the eastbound Via train was about half a kilometer west of Shakespeare when it hit a pedestrian on the tracks.

Emergency responders attended the scene and found the man’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified him as Robert William MCardle, 27, of Stratford.

There is no foul play suspected and there is no risk to the public, say police.
