Perth County OPP have charged a Stratford man after a truck reported stolen fled police, then the driver fled on foot.

Police say they were contacted around 5 a.m. Saturday about a pickup truck that had just been stolen from a driveway in Fullarton.

Officers patrolling the area spotted the truck shortly afterward on Perth Road 163 near Line 8. The vehicle was pulled over but as officers approached the truck it sped away.

As police followed the pickup, it then stopped in Rannoch, at which point the male driver ran from the vehicle.

Officers set up a containment area and an OPP West Region Canine Unit quickly located the male hiding underneath vegetation.

As a result, Paul Rayner, 41, of Stratford has been charged with theft under $5,000 of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer and driving while disqualified.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday.
