Charges are pending after a standoff on Walpole Island First Nation that lasted 10 hours Sunday.

The OPP tactics unit and emergency response team were called after a man - wanted in connection with an assault with a weapon - barricaded himself inside a home.

Police arrived at a residence in the 100 block of Firehall Road around 1 a.m. due to a break and enter and assault.

They say two males had fled the scene on foot. One suspect was apprehended but the other barricaded himself in the residence.

Just after 11 a.m., the suspect was apprehended without incident inside the residence by the OPP Tactical Response Unit and turned over to Walpole police.

Police closed Firehall Road, Library Road and Dewagan Lane during the incident.

The investigation continues.
