A 31-year-old Sarnia woman who was stabbed during an altercation on Thursday was released from hospital and arrested for outstanding charges and held for bail.

She was to appear at the courthouse in Sarnia Monday morning.

Sarnia police officers were called Thursday by a 26-year-old Sarnia woman who reported her purse and computer were stolen during a break-in to her apartment on South Vidal Street.

While the officer was taking this report, the stabbing victim came up to him. He assisted the woman and attended another apartment in the complex. The officer says he saw three youths assaulting a 57- year-old man.

Police say the 57-year-old man learned about the break-in to the neighbouring apartment and confronted the youths and the 31-year-old woman about it.

During the confrontation, the youths and the adult female attacked the man, according to police. In an effort to get away, he grabbed an item to defend himself. This is when the woman was stabbed.

The man was taken to hospital and released with severe bruising about his body. The woman was admitted.

Police say the computer and the purse were recovered in the apartment where the stabbing and assault took place. The 57-year-old man was not charged.

The stabbing victim, man and three youths are all related. The break and enter victim is not related.
