A St. Thomas woman has been charged after three animals were allegedly found in distress by police.

According to St. Thomas police, officers attended a downtown apartment on Monday, due to concerns raised by the landlord and neighbours.

When police arrived, officers say they discovered a dog and two young cats that were in distress due to lack of food and water.

Their investigation revealed that the animals had been left in the apartment for up to three weeks with no care.

The animals have since been removed from the residence by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The owner, a 19-year-old woman, is charged with cruelty to animals.
