Elgin County OPP say a 53-year-old teacher at Arthur Voaden Secondary School in St. Thomas is facing two sex-related counts.

Detectives laid the charges after a complaint from a student under the age of 18 following an incident that reportedly occurred off school property over the Christmas holidays.

According to investigators, the incident allegedly involved inappropriate touching of a sexual nature, and occurred at a residence in Central Elgin, southeast of St. Thomas, on Dec. 29, 2015.

Two charges were laid on Wednesday following a police investigation.

The 53-year-old man from Central Elgin has been charged with sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court in St. Thomas later this month.
