A 42-year-old St. Thomas man has been charged with impaired driving while his 11-year-old daughter was in the car, according to St. Thomas police.

Officers were called to a north end residence for an unrelated matter at 8:52 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say a vehicle pulled into the laneway and as the male driver exited the vehicle and began speaking to the officer, an odour of alcohol was on his breath.

The officer demanded the man provide a sample into the roadside screening device. Police say he failed.

The man was placed under arrest and brought back to the police station. Police say he provided breath samples of nearly three times the legal limit.

He was charged with operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs and he was released a short time later with a future court date.

Officers say the passenger in the vehicle was the man’s 11-year-old daughter.
