The Science Hill Drifters have just received word that their attempt at the 'largest parade of snowmobiles' is officially a Guinness World Record.

The St. Marys snomobile club attempted the world record on Feb. 8, 2015, and event coordinator Dwayne Lawrence says they received official word Friday that they were successful.

The group started planning the event, which was also a fundraiser, before the snow was even on the ground.

It drew snowmobilers from across Canada, and even from overseas.

According to the Guinness World Records website, the parade included 847 vehicles which travelled as a convoy over a nine kilometre route across farmers fields at about 25 km/h.

The previous record of about 820 sleds was held by a snowmobile club in Minnesota.
