Elgin County police say a 44-year-old St. Thomas man was hurt after rolling his snowmobile when a jump went wrong.

Police say the crash took place Thursday night on private property near Middle River Rd., just west of Union in Southwold Township at approximately 6:17p.m.

The St. Thomas man was in the process of taking a jump off a hill when his snowmobile landed wrong, rolled and ejected him, officers say. He was the lone operator of the 2002 Bombardier snowmobile.

The driver was transported to hospital in stable condition with serious, non- life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision, whether proper safety equipment was being worn and to determine whether the operator of the snowmobile had permission to be on the property.
