The SIU will be investigating after a woman went into medical distress while in police custody in St. Thomas.
Elgin County OPP say they arrested a woman Wednesday aroun 7:00 p.m. who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
After she was in police custody, she suffered a medical emergency and was transported to hospital.
She was later pronounced dead at hospital.
The Special Investigations Unit will be investigating the matter.
Elgin OPP will not be releasing any further information about the incident as the incident is taken over by the SIU.
The SIU investigates all police interactions that involve death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
