A man is facing numerous charges after crashing a motorcycle then fleeing on foot while apparently attempting to evade police in Wingham.

Wingham police say they were advised by OPP on Wednesday that a suspect was headed toward Wingham from Teeswater on a suspected stolen motorcycle.

An officer stopped at the north end of town hoping to intercept the vehicle, but the driver turned and sped northbound at a high rate of speed before reaching the cruiser.

Near Howick Turnberry Road, police say the driver lost control and fled on foot into a farmer's field before being apprehended.

The suspect was transported to Wingham Hospital and then transferred to a London hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Michael Greer, 27, of Wingham, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon while prohibited and breach of probation.

As the injuries were thought to be more serious initially, the Special Investigations Unit was contacted.
