Middlesex OPP were called to a fatal single-vehicle crash near Strathroy on Thursday evening.

Police responded to the crash on Napperton Drive in the Municipality of Adelaide Metcalfe around 9:40 p.m.

The Adelaide Metcalfe Fire Department,  Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, Middlesex-London EMS and Hydro One also responded.

Police say an investigation found that a 2000 Lincoln was travelling eastbound on Napperton Drive when the car left the roadway, rolled over and struck a hydro pole in the south ditch.

The male driver from Strathroy-Caradoc, who has been identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Day. was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. 

He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the vehicle, 27-year-old Michelle Day, also of Strathroy-Caradoc, died at the scene. 

Hydro was out in the area temporarily and a section of Napperton Drive between Kerwood Road and Brown Road was closed overnight as a result of the crash.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were deployed to assist with the investigation.
