A mother and son are facing charges after police allege they stole merchandise from a store at the Heritage Place Mall.

Owen Sound police were contacted by store security officers around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday after they reportedly observed a female stealing numerous pieces of merchandise from the store and putting it into a vehicle.

Security allege that after she realized she had been spotted she fled on foot and as the woman hid her son - an unlicenced driver - reportedly drove the vehicle with the stolen items to her.

Officers located both mother and son fleeing the area on foot and both were arrested without incident. Police also recovered about $2,000 in stolen property.

A 48-year-old woman from Dobbington has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching bail conditions. She was out on bail after being charged with numerous theft and drug-related offences throughout Grey and Bruce counties.

She was held for a bail hearing.

Her 20-year-old old son has been charged with possession of stolen property and driving without a licence.

He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on December 19th.
