Emotional victim impact statements were delivered Tuesday at the sentencing of Shane Wood for first-degree murder.
The 39-year-old was found guilty in the beating and stabbing death of his 50-year-old uncle, Paul Curry, last month.
He was also convicted of arson and causing indignity to a body in the September 2013 death at Curry's Manitoba Street home.
Curry's family told the court Tuesday that Wood has torn their family apart, causing them pain, heartache and sadness.
Brother John Curry said, "You not only killed by brother," before Wood interrupted, asking him to get on with.
He continued, "Shane, that's the last time you're going to hear me say your name. You're a son, a brother, a father, a nephew - to me you're just a guy who killed by brother and that's all you'll ever be."
Wood angered many family members when he addressed the court before his sentencing, denying any wrong-doing and vowing to continue to fight to prove his innocence.
He said, "If Paul were here today he'd say, 'Shane did not murder me.'" He was then interrupted by a family member telling him to shut up but continued, "Again, I say sorry for our loss - our loss," before being interrupted again.
In the end though, Wood was given a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Speaking outside the courthouse, Wood's lawyer Damon Hardy says, "This has been a difficult ordeal for him and for the rest of the family, and frankly they all had a lot to say."
Some family members remain hopeful that fences can eventually be mended.
