A second company has pleaded guilty to health and safety offences in connection with a deadly incident at a Waterloo construction site.
Maison Canada Holdings Limited was fined $120,000 last week for failing to safely store and move material or equipment, an offence under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The fine was in relation to the death of Nick Lalonde, a 23-year-old London man who was working on construction of 185 King Street North in October 2013.
Lalonde was on the 12th floor of the tower, helping deliver blocks of concrete to the roof.
He became trapped between the 3,500-pound skid of concrete and a wall.
According to the Ministry of Labour, he grabbed onto the blocks – only for the skid to crash through the wall, knocking him down four storeys.
Lalonde landed on a scaffold, and later died of injuries from the fall.
In March, Central Construction was fined $90,000 for failing to ensure the use of a fall restricting system at the site.
