The search for a missing person in Port Stanley has ended after OPP combed the area near a breakwall for hours.

At around 6:23 p.m. on Monday, a witness on the main pier observed a person bypass a security gate on the west breakwall.

The witness was unable to determine the gender of this individual, but described them as 5’6”, 110 pounds and was seen wearing a white t-shirt and jean shorts.

Elgin County OPP say the witness became alarmed when he could no longer see the subject, but never saw them enter the water.

An extensive search was conducted Monday evening and Tuesday morning both on land and on the water. Officers also canvassed the area and searched for abandoned vehicles.

Staff-Sgt. Greg Dafoe said in a statement "At this point we have discontinued the search in light of having no new information indicating that someone entered the water. Since the initial report we have not received any new information or any reports of missing or an overdue person. We have not received any leads to indicate someone had gone into the water or were outstanding."

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
