Sarnia police are investigating an alleged assault on one of their officers.

They say a constable noticed a suspect who was before the courts early Sunday morning on Everest Street.  

As the officer investigated, a struggle ensued.

Police say the 25-year-old suspect ripped off the officer’s radio, but he was able to call for back up. The officer used a Taser on the man but the struggle continued.

The constable was able to hold the man long enough until other officers arrived.

Police say a search of the man turned up 91 grams of crystal methamphetamine, with an approximate street value of $13,680.  Also found was $465 in cash.

He has been charged with assaulting police, trafficking and breaching recognizance.
