London police said a man allegedly tried to rob a variety store, but was beaten off by the owner, wielding a golf club.

Officers were called to the Lorne Ave Mini Mart, at 750 Lorne Ave. Friday around 8 p.m.

The suspect, whom police said had a knife, fled on foot after he was struck numerous times with the golf club.

The suspect is described as a 20- to 30-year-old white male about six feet tall with a medium build. HE was last seen wearing a black toque, scarf and gloves. He was also wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt under a grey jacket, with beige pants and brown shoes.

Police believe the suspect sustained injuries to one or both of his forearms from the club.
