TORONTO - The Ontario Provincial Police Association says the RCMP has searched the offices of the union's top leaders as part of a criminal investigation.

The union says its president Jim Christie and vice-president Martin Bain have taken voluntary leaves of absence following the RCMP search of their offices on Friday.

The union's chief administrative officer, whose office was also searched by the RCMP, has been placed on administrative leave.

The Ontario Provincial Police Association says it has fully co-operated with the criminal investigation by handing over items identified in the search warrant.

The union says the leaders' leaves of absence should not be considered admissions of wrongdoing.

A statement from the union did not indicate the subject of the criminal investigation and the RCMP did not immediately return a request for comment.
