A monumental anniversary is being marked in Clinton this weekend.

An old rail car that was once used to teach children in Northern Ontario is marking its 100th anniversary.

One of the founders of the School on Wheels program, Fred Sloman, was from Clinton.

The wooden rail car he taught in for 39 years, which is also where he raised his family, now rests in his hometown.

From 1926-1965 Sloman and his wife travelled to northern communities via the rail car teaching children living in remote northern communities and bush camps.

The rail car is one of only two still existence used for the program.

Festivities marking the 100th anniversary of the rail car will take place Saturday in Clinton.
