LONDON, ONT -- The first CAMI employees will be returning to the Ingersoll plant next week, but production shifts won’t return until the week of May 25.

According to Unifor Local 88 President Joe Graves about 40 to 50 trades workers will return to the plant next week to prepare it for reopening.

The following week a skeleton crew will return to the north zone, and by the week of May 25 a production shift will begin work.

Finally by June 1 they anticipate to have two production shifts.

When the workers return to the plant they will be met by a set of new guidelines outlined by General Motors.

Employees will be asked a series of questions at the gates, and will have to undergo a temperature check.

Graves tells CTV that a full orientation on the new measures will be coming in the upcoming days and weeks.

Roughly 2,500 workers are employed at the plant that was shut down in March due to COVID-19.

The CAMI plant produces the Chevy Equinox for GM.
