Police across southwestern Ontario are holding 'Prescription Drug Drop Off Day' in an effort to keep medication out of the hands of youth.
On Saturday, people can anonymously dispose of old and unused medications at a number of locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Officials say the misuse and abuse of prescription medication has become a major public safety issue.
OPP Deputy Commissioner Scott Tod said in a statement "Of the 120,000 young people who said they have used opioid pain relievers to get high, 70 per cent of them said they got the medication from home. These statistics are alarming."
In London, medication can be dropped off at White Oaks Mall, Cherryhill Village Mall and the Loblaws location at 1740 Richmond Street.
In St. Thomas, residents can take medication to 145 Curtis Street.
A number of OPP detachments are also prepared to accept medication, you can find a list on the OPP website.
Ontarians are reminded that unused or expired medication can always be dropped off at their local pharmacy.
