OPP have released the identity of a truck driver that was struck and killed on the shoulder of the Highway 401 on Sunday in Elgin County.

Police say Zdzislaw Nowak, 67, of North York, Ont., was out of his tractor trailer on the shoulder of the highway, when he was hit by a passing car.

The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 just west of Blacks Road in West Elgin around 1:30pm.

The driver of the 2015 Grey Subaru car, a 35-year-old man from Ilderton, Ont., was not injured in the collision.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Furnival Road and Orford Road reopened at approximately 6:30pm on Sunday.
