London police have released the name of the deceased in the Friday night stabbing on Richmond Street.

He has been identified as Jesse Scott James, 23, of London.

The entire incident was caught on security footage of a nearby establishment.

Police responded to a stabbing on Richmond Street just south of Dundas St. around 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

Paramedics found James on the sidewalk suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A male suspect, in his mid-20s, was taken into custody but that individual was released with no charges.

Police say the public was not in danger.

"This is not a random act of violence, there is no immediate threat to the public," says London Police Cst. Melissa Duncan.

People are gathering at the site of James's death.

Friends and well-wishers have been leaving hand-written notes, stuffed animals and even a t-shirt as a way of saying goodbye to a man who was loved by many.

"He wouldn't hurt a fly you know. He was always trying to help others and for that to happen to him you know it's heartbreaking," says long-time friend Craig Easter.

"Really sad to see it happen. It's awful. It's awful how life can be gone just like that. Crazy," adds Leon Riley, another friend of James.

Meanwhile, CTV London has obtained video surveillance of the attack.

Jim Ferriera, owner of the nearby Grinning Gator Bar was about to go home after a day's work when the altercation unfolded in front of him on the sidewalk.

He then spent the night pouring over surveillance video with police.

The video, which we have blurred, shows two men getting into a fight.

The action moves quickly up the sidewalk, ams and legs are flailing and then one man collapses.

Ferreira and his staff from the Grinning Gator secure the scene and a nurse who happens to be nearby comes to the victim's aid.

"It was actually quite emotional because when I looked down, nothing could prepare you for that. So it was almost like something that was out of the movies. So when you have someone that's fighting for their life, and gasping for air... and you have this wonderful person (the nurse) trying to help save this person," says Ferriera.

"What could i have done differently?" asks Ferreira.

This is London’s third homicide of 2015.
