ST.THOMAS, Ont. - Police in St. Thomas are looking for two suspects after a female taxi driver was assaulted, robbed and left tied to playground equipment early Sunday.

Investigators say the driver was called to a park for a fare around 3:15 a.m. and was approached by two males wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Police allege the men -- one armed with a crowbar and the other with what appeared to be a butcher knife -- forced the driver out of the cab, assaulted her and tied her to equipment in the park.

But the robbery was interrupted when another cab driver arrived to check on his colleague, saw her unattended cab and then noticed two men walking behind him.

With the other cab distracting the suspects, police say the victim was able to escape and run to a private residence where she called 911.

She was taken to hospital for minor facial wounds and has since been released.
