The London Humane Society and London Police teamed up to remind people of the dangers of leaving pets in unattended vehicles.

As the weather heats up, officials say it’s imperative to think of your pets as each year, they respond to numerous calls about animals in distress after being left in hot vehicles.

An awareness event was held Sunday afternoon at Petsmart Masonville. A demonstration was held to show the effect of humid weather on inside temperatures involving a stuffed animal and a thermometer inside a car.

When the temperature starts to soar, you have between six to 10 minutes before the dog is going to suffer permanent injury and or death and this is a situation that's completely preventable,” says Judy Foster of the London Humane Society.

Last weekend alone, police responded to a dozen calls about dogs left in hot vehicles.
