London Fire Services officials say one of the people injured in a fire on Oxford Street Monday has died.

Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a fire broke out in the apartment building around 11:15 a.m. at 1451 Oxford St. East.

The deceased male’s identity is not being released until next of kin has been notified. The cause of death is unknown at this time. A post-mortem is scheduled for Thursday.

As with all deaths that occur outside of a hospital, London police investigators are now involved. Members of the arson unit are continuing to partner with London Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal with the investigation.

The other person injured in the fire has been released from hospital.

CTV News has learned that while a blaze at an apartment complex on Oxford Street is still under investigation, the London Fire Department had made a decision to issue an order to close before the blaze.

About 30 residents were displaced by the fire.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.
