Members of the London Fire Department Hazmat team were dispatched to a building on Kipps Lane after reports of people falling ill.

It turned out that a can of pepper spray was discharged while junk removal employees were cleaning a unit at 641 Kipps Ln.

It is not immediatly clear how the canister was activated but it appears to be accidental.

Platoon Chief Dan McNeil tells CTV News that six to seven people suffered symptoms from the pepper spray. All were attended to on scene by paramedics.

As a result all those involved suffered only minor injuries and residents were quickly able to return to their units.
