A standoff in Owen Sound ended peacefully and without injury Wednesday night.

According to Owen Sound police, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 900 block of 5th Avenue West shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Officers say they were advised by dispatch that the disturbance had escalated, when a 59-year-old man brandished a firearm, while his wife and adult son barricaded themselves in an upstairs bedroom.

Upon arrival the complainant told police a shot had been discharged. Police were able to make contact with the male, who surrendered.

Through their investigation, police says evidence shows that the male discharged a large fireworks device to simulate the sound of a shotgun.

Officers say they did seize a double barrel shotgun from the scene.

The male now faces charges of assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and careless use of a firearm.
