Owen Sound police have released a photo of a hat that was the exact same one worn by missing soldier Andrew Fitzgerald at the time of his disappearance.

Police say if anyone sees it, to immediately contact them and not disturb it.

If it can't remain in place, police are asking the finder to handle the hat as little as possible and mark the location it was found.

Fitzgerald is from Nova Scotia and was last seen around 4:30 Saturday morning at the corner of 16th Street East and 9th Avenue in Owen Sound.

He’s described as white 6’ 2” (188cm), 180 lbs. (82kg) with a lean muscular build and short brown hair.

Fitzgerald was last seen wearing the red and black hat (pictured), a red plaid shirt, beige shorts and black skateboarding-style shoes.

The joint forces search team is not asking for volunteers from the community at this time.

The team has been conducting both land and water searches.

Residents are being asked to check their properties for any sign of Fitzgerald.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact Owen Sound Police at 519-376-1234.
