On a day when London is remembering those whose lives have been cut short by overdose, Stratford police are warning the public about a dangerous new drug similar to LSD, following a death this week.

Police believe a 17-year-old died from an overdose of a psychedelic drug, 25I-NBOMe, in Stratford on Thursday.

“We want to make sure people know if you have any of this, just turn it over to police,” said Sgt. Craig Wesson. “It’s for public safety.”

Wesson said “it’s a sad day” in Stratford.

He is pleased to hear about the London event at the Campbell Memorial Park on International Overdose Awareness Day, which is also aiming to prevent overdoses through education.

“It’s a good day to hold the event,” he said.

The London InterCommunity Health Centre organized the day, which also included a moment of silence for those who have lost their lives.

The event also included speeches and sharing of stories by those who have survived.

The health centre said 100 people in London have died from an overdose between 2008 and mid-2011.
