A Wellington County OPP officer has been charged after a cruiser was involved in a collision with a school bus in Fergus, Ont.

Provincial police were called to Scotland St. near Millburn Blvd. shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday for a collision investigation.

Officials say the officer "failed to stop for the stopped school bus colliding with the rear of it."

Neither the driver nor the students on board the bus were injured.

The officer sustained minor injury and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

As a result, Const. Alexander Smith has been issued a provincial offence notice under the Highway Traffic Act for start from stopped position – not in safety.
