A 28-year-old man is facing numerous charges after police say he would use social media to meet women and then get money from them.

Oxford County OPP say the charges stem from a fraud investigation involving the use of dating websites.

Jon Mulder of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • two counts of theft of a credit card
  • two counts of use of a stolen credit card
  • two counts of failing to comply with probation
  • possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • two counts of flight while pursued by a peace officer
  • dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • public mischief
  • driving while under suspension
  • failing to stop for police

Investigators say Mulder allegedly met and developed relationships with women using social media dating websites.

They allege he would eventually meet with the women in person and pose as an American veterinarian. During a short relationship he would then obtain money using different tactics.

Mulder was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.
