Two people have died following a collision Thursday evening near Delhi, Ont. between a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
Police along with fire crews and EMS responded to a collision at Brantford Road and Teeterville Road, northeast of Tillsonburg, shortly before 7 p.m.
According to police, a motorcyclist was travelling southbound on Brantford Road and a pickup was heading westbound on Teeterville Road when they collided at the intersection.
The motorcycle rider, 54-year-old Kenneth Haviland of Norfolk County, and a passenger in the pickup , 74-year-old Patricia Menard-Williams of Woodstock, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing but police say that charges are pending. Teeterville Road is controlled by stop signs in both directions at the intersection with Brantford Road.
This is the latest in a series of fatal collisions. Two separate crashes in Huron County on the weekend killed three people and left one person in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Gord Inglis of Inglis Cycle says riders have to be aware of making themselves as visible as possible, "It's what you do with the vehicle, with the motorcycle and how you position yourself on the road."
And regardless of who is at fault, it is the rider who will suffer the most serious injuries following a collision.
Middlesex-London EMS Supt. Shawn Pranger says, "When we get to those scenes, sometimes it's quite horrific what we see. The injuries we deal with are a lot more severe then when it's just a car vs. a car."
