The first Friday in June is known to many high school students as 'Beach Day,' but provincial police stepped up patrols in beach areas to ensure everyone stayed safe.

On 'Beach Day' or 'senior skip day,' students often leave school without permission to visit the beaches of southwestern Ontario, and with the beautiful weather, thousands hit the sand in Grand Bend to let loose.

But OPP were also out in force targeting highway traffic, liquor and criminal code violations, including underage drinking, drinking and driving, trespassing and property damage.

By the end of the day police had laid a number of alcohol and drug-related charges.
