A 27-year-old Brantford man is facing numerous charges after a bank teller in Tillsonburg became suspicious about his identification.

Oxford County OPP were called to the Bank of Montreal on Broadway Street around 10 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of a fraud in progress.

Investigators say a man attempted to obtain a debit card for an account he had previously opened at the branch, but the teller alerted her manager when she suspected fraud and became suspicious about his identification.

Police say it appears the Bank of Montreal, Scotia Bank and CIBC in TIllsonburg were all victims of the alleged fraud between March 25 and April 7.

Other locations in Kitchener and Aylmer were also targeted and a loss over $1,700 was reported.

Matthew Ouderkirk was arrested and charged with seven counts of identity fraud, three counts of identity theft, two counts of fraud under $5,000 and three counts of obtaining credit by false pretences or fraud.

He was being held pending a bail hearing on Wednesday.
