LONDON, ONT. -- Haldimand OPP are continuing the search for a missing 9-year-old boy who fell through the ice of Lake Erie in Nanticoke.

OPP were notified of the missing boy Saturday around 4:30 p.m.

Police say two boys, 8 and 9-years-old, were on the ice's edge when a wave swept them into the lake.

A 10-year-old girl who was with the boys ran for help and a man and woman were able to pull the 8-year-old to safety but the other boy did not surface.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was called in to help with the search but was called off Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit as well as the police helicopter resumed recovery efforts at Peacock Point.

Police say dangerous ice buildup conditions near the shore is causing delays in officers being able to enter the water to conduct the search underwater.

OPP plan to update media once news becomes available.
