One person dead after house fire near Newbury, Ont.
Provincial fire investigators, local firefighters and OPP are on the scene of a fatal house fire near Bothwell.
Chatham-Kent fire crews responded around 7 a.m. Saturday to a call for a structure fire at a farm house on Cameron Road on the outskirts of Lambton County.
“Once the fire crews arrived they did discover and a deceased individual within the residence,” says Jessica Reynolds, a provincial fire investigator.
“As part as of the Office of the Fire Marshal’s mandate, we respond to all fatal fires to conduct an origin and cause investigation.”
Though not confirmed, the deceased is believed to be a woman who was a senior with limited mobility with a bed on the main floor of the home.
There were distraught women on scene who CTV were told were her caregivers. They did not wish to comment.
By mid-afternoon officials were still awaiting the arrival of the coroner.
“The community has lost an individual here today,” says Reynolds.
“We are responding in order to determine and give that both the family and the members of the community some closure and explanation as to what has happened here.”
Fire investigators expect to have a cause and origin of the fire by Sunday.
