One driver has died while another remains in hospital in critical condition after a collision east of Courtright, Ont. on Tuesday.

The three-vehicle crash involving a pickup, a tanker truck and a motorcycle happened at Courtright Line and Mandaumin Road around 2:45 p.m.

Police say the pickup was southbound on Mandaumin, which is controlled by a stop sign, when it collided with a westbound tanker truck.

The trailer portion of the tanker then became detached and entered the eastbound lanes of Courtright, colliding with an eastbound motorcycle.

Lambton County OPP now say the driver of the pickup, 89-year-old Theodore Carron of Thamesville died early Wednesday morning.

The motorcycle rider, 19-year-old James Stafford of St. Clair Township remains in hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the empty tanker had been treated at the scene and released.

The tanker was empty at the time of the crash, so there were no environmental issues as a result of the collision, though a small fire had to be extinguished.

The intersection was closed until around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday while an investigation into the collision was completed.
