Four charged with drug offences after traffic stop in Elliot Lake, Ont.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police have charged four people with drug offences following a traffic stop on Ottawa Avenue in Elliot Lake this week.

The charges follow a traffic stop Jan. 21 around 12:45 p.m. Police recognized one of the people inside the vehicle who was wanted on outstanding charges.

“The person was uncooperative with police, resisting arrest, assaultive and attempted to disarm an officer,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“Police were able to safely and effectively arrest all four people from the vehicle and approximately 43 grams of suspected fentanyl was seized with an approximate street value of $10,900.”

A 50-year-old from Elliot Lake was charged with resisting arrest, assault while resisting arrest, attempting to disarm police, drug trafficking, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Jan. 22.

The three other suspects, two aged 35 and one 43-year-old, all from Elliot Lake, are charged with drug trafficking. The trio has a court date of March 13 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake.
