London police say no charges will be laid after officers pulled over a minivan on Wharncliffe Road near Emery Street in what was being called a 'high risk stop.'
Police believed the van might have been connected to an incident earlier Thursday morning in the Springbank Drive and Kernohan Parkway area.
Around 10 a.m. police say they saw two men with a rifle in the area and believed the pair may have been involved in a possible break and enter.
But it turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Police say after further investigation the initial firearm that was spotted was actually an air rifle and no charges will be laid.
Replica firearm involved in second incident
Police say a weapons call shortly after 1 p.m. at White Oaks Mall was also the result of a replica firearm.
Officers arrested two men outside the front entrance of the mall and say one of the men had a concealed replica handgun, possibly a pellet gun.
There is no word on any charges.
In a statement Police Chief Brad Duncan says "I cannot emphasize strongly enough the level of danger posed to someone in possession of a replica firearm. Aside from the significant resources that are committed to gun calls, the consequences of a police officer engaging a person armed with what entirely appears to be a real gun could be devastating."
Police are reminding residents about the dangers of replica guns if they are seen as a threat by officers.
