Residents of an apartment complex on Whitney Street are still coming to terms with a fatal stabbing on Wednesday.

London police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. for a medical distress call and found a woman had been stabbed.

Suzan Aisha Jacob, 50, of London died in hospital shortly afterward. It is the city's fifth homicide this year.

Juma Kuol, 49, of London, has been charged with second degree murder in the death.

Police say the two considered themselves friends, but were not in a domestic relationship nor was there a familial relationship.

Neighbours say she had just moved in to the apartment complex and those who awoke to screams early on Canada Day are coming to terms with the bloody scene.

John Glease says, "I'll never forget, we were talking about it last night, I almost cried because I can never forget it now. It's stuck in my head. It's scary you know."

Police remained at the scene on Thursday afternoon as the investigation continues.
