A motorcycle rider from Chatham has been charged with racing a motor vehicle after being clocked at over 200 km/h near Grand Bend.

Huron County OPP say a motorcycle was spotted northbound on Grand Bend Line at a very high rate of speed just before 9 p.m. last Thursday.

An officer clocked the 2007 Yamaja R6L motorcycle at a peak speed of 207 km/h in a 90 km/h zone as it headed into Grand Bend.

Police say when the driver came to a red light within town limits the officer was able to direct the driver to pull over.

As a result, the 24-year-old Chatham man had his licence suspended for seven days and his motorcycle impounded.

He is scheduled to appear in court in September.
