LONDON, ONT. -- The Strathoy Middlesex General Hospital is dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19 on its second floor inpatient unit.

Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing officer, Rosemary Frketich, says one patient has tested positive.

Hospital officials say they are working closely with the Middlesex-London Health Unit for the investigation.

So far, no other patients or any staff members have tested positive as of Saturday.

“We do have a small number of staff that we are continuing to test as per the guidelines we have been instructed.”

Frketich says all other patients on the second floor inpatient unit have been tested and their results came back negative of COVID-19 as of Saturday.

Enhanced safety measures have been implemented, including the closure of the unit to new admissions, along with a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the unit.

“We continue to thank our staff who have been doing an incredible job providing exceptional care throughout these challenging times,” says Frketich.

Officials say they plan to release more information once it becomes available.
