The driver who died after his van was struck by debris has been identified as 57-year-old Brian Lambert of Branchton, south of Cambridge, Ont.

Lambert died in a London hospital on Thursday afternoon, just hours after he was seriously injured in the single-vehicle collision on Elgin Road south of Dorchester.

Middlesex County OPP say a section of roof structure on a southbound farm trailer broke free during heavy winds, became airborne and struck Lambert’s northbound van.

Lambert was extricated from the van and treated at the scene for serious injuries before being transported to hospital.

Elgin Road was closed between Gladstone Drive and Harrietsville Drive for several hours as the OPP accident reconstruction team tried to figure out what happened.

The investigation into the crash continues.
