A 27-year-old London woman has been charged after an alleged theft of copper wire in Chatham-Kent.

Police were called to a communications tower on Fairview Line around 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Officers say a hole was cut in a chain link fence that surrounded the property and some wire had also been removed.

Following a search of the site, police discovered a woman hiding with a duffle bag containing copper wire and a pair of bolt cutters.

She has been charged with theft and possession under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, and possession of break-in instruments.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

There was roughly $350 in damages to the property.
