A small mechanical fire has forced the temporary closure of the Sarnia Library.

According to Library officials the fire occurred in the building’s mechanical system in the basement of the downtown location late Thursday afternoon.

The library was safely evacuated and no one was injured as a result. Officials say the Library will be closed until the Electrical Safety Authority conducts an onsite inspection.

No timetable was given for the reopening of the Library.

It is not immediately clear if there was any significant damage to the building or Library property.
