Middlesex OPP went door to door Thursday morning after someone in the Kilworth area says they spotted a black bear and notified police.
“We have not been able to confirm the sighting, though we have no reason to disbelieve the report either,” says Sgt. Dave Rektor.
He says police are talking to residents about safety and personal protection.
“Ultimately this is an MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) issue,” he says.
Black bears have been spotted in neighbouring counties of Lambton and Huron.
The ministry says bears normally don’t act in a predatory manner towards humans, except in rare cases.
