The St. Joseph's Mental Health Care Centre in London got a financial boost Tuesday.

The BMO Financial Group announced a $150,000 contribution to the facility.

David Blyth, regional vice-president for BMO, says, "We see it as our responsibility as a bank that does business in the area, we really need to be part of it. We're excited to be part of it and we're excited to be invited to join."

The money will be used for ongoing programs at the centre, which opened in November.

Speaking at the announcement, Dr. Gillian Kernaghan, St. Joseph's president, underlined the importance of investing in mental health care, in the face of a growing demand for services.

Dr. Sarah Jarmain, who heads the Mental Health Care Centre site, says community partnerships are vital on several fronts.

"I think the biggest is in raising awareness. We know that stigma in terms of individuals being able to feel free to talk about their mental health problems and receive care is a huge issue, and the more that we can have this as a very public discussion...makes a difference."
