A man shot and killed in a First Nation community southwest of London has been identified as 66-year-old Carson Ireland.

Oneida First Nation Police and Middlesex County OPP were called to a River Road residence around 3 p.m. on Sunday for assistance.

Upon arrival, officers found a Ireland dead in the home, and officials say a firearm was involved in the incident.

A post mortem examination has been scheduled to officially determine the cause of death.

The suspect is described as a tall, non-white male, wearing dark clothing and driving a light-coloured vehicle.

The Middlesex County OPP Crime Unit is conducting the investigation and a portion of River Road between Townline Road and Walker Road has been closed to facilitate it.

OPP are reminding citizens to keep homes and vehicles secured and to report any suspicious activity to police immediately to prevent crime.
